Description
Twila K is a truly unique vessel meticulously maintained by very knowledgeable owners and is in outstanding condition. She was custom designed by A.M. Deering & Son in Chicago and built in New Haven CT at the J.J. Wyman Boat Company in approximately 1968. She has had only two owners in her lifetime. She is now on the market as the sellers prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
Boarding the boat on the starboard side, one enters into the spacious and very inviting pilot house featuring a teak sole and a high quality teak table and chairs. Forward is the helm featuring Hynautic hydraulic steering, Morse electronic engine controls and appropriate engine gauges and alarms. A pair of quality captains chairs make operating underway comfortable for the captain and mate. Abaft the pilot house is a teak deck with a recent sunbrella awning and more comfortable seating that is accessed through a sliding glass door. Also on the aft deck is a propane fired, rail-mounted grill. Off center to starboard in the forward end of the pilot house is the entrance to the main salon and interior of the boat. The salon is extremely clean and well laid out with ample seating and storage throughout. The sofas and recliners can be opened out to provide extra sleeping accommodations. Forward and three steps down from the main salon is a very spacious galley. The original dinette has been removed to provide more storage space, working area and room for the washer/drier to port. To starboard is a double basin sink, Force 10 electric stove with three burners and oven, and a Whirlpool freezer/refrigerator as well as more storage and working space. The galley sole is beautiful teak with a simple but elegant centerline pattern. Going forward is a full head to port with a sink, vanity, medicine cabinet, Incinolet WB/TR-III incinerating-type toilet, and shower. Continuing forward one enters the carpeted v berth with ample storage, hanging locker and two bunks. Aft and down from the main salon is the carpeted aft stateroom. Immediately down the three stairs to starboard is a custom-built dresser with 12 drawers as well as a large hanging locker. Sleeping accommodations include a double size berth to starboard and a large single berth to port. The aft stateroom head includes a vanity, sink, medicine cabinet, shower stall, and Sealand Vacuflush toilet. The aft bulkhead features a door with easy access to the engine room.
The exterior of the vessel features the same level of beauty and functionality seen belowdecks. The side decks provide comfortable walkways for going forward or aft. The centerpiece of the foredeck area is the unique forward helm station providing full control of the vessel with steering, engine controls and electronics. There is cushioned seating for at least six adults forward of the main house. The house top features the usual array of antennas and radar domes but also a Brower Systems 600-pound boat crane. Stored atop the pilot house is the 2007 Walker Bay dinghy with inflatable collar and sailing rig and a 2015 Mercury 3.5 HP outboard.
Ground tackle includes a Delta type anchor on a stainless steel bow roller with 200’ of 3/8” G4 grade chain. There is also a Danforth H60 anchor with 200’ of ¾” line and 20’ of 3/8” chain. Ground tackle is controlled by a LaFrance Falcon windlass.
The deck hardware includes two large stainless steel forward mooring bitts with custom stainless steel forward chocks; stainless steel midship cleats with hawsers; and two large stainless steel aft mooring bitts with stainless steel aft hawser chocks. All are sound and well secured.
The hull consists of mahogany planking on oak frames and battens. The decks are teak and in excellent condition with no leaks. The propulsion system consists of twin Ford Seamaster Engines each providing 277 hp. They have approximately 3,000 hours of use. The cylinder heads, intake manifolds, ignition and carburetors were replaced in 2018. Transmissions/v-drives were replaced with new Twin Disc transmissions/v-drives in 2019. The Lewmar bow and stern thrusters are in excellent condition.
Tankage consists of two Monel fuel tanks with each holding 300 gallons of fuel. The water tank is also Monel and holds 200 gallons. The capacity of the holding tank is 42 gallons. The diesel heating fuel tank holds 88 gallons.
The navigation and electronics equipment includes two VHF radios: one Ray 215 Standard Eclipse and the other a Garmin 100. The GPS/Chartplotter /Radar is a Raymarine E120. The Autopilot is a Raymarine SmartPilot.
The electrical system consists of 50 amp 120-volt shore power. The 24-volt DC House system is comprised of eight Deka 8L16 batteries. Included is a 4000W Trace Engineering Inverter/Charger.
